City orders fire clean up

Owners of the fire-destroyed business on Enderby’s Cliff Avenue, formerly known as Little City Fashions, have been ordered by the city to remove the structure and debris within 30 days.

  Since January 2011, the building owned by Paul and Joan vanDokkumburg and Mark and Shannon Noakes has been left dilapidated and unclean after a fire destroyed the business.

Enderby drug trafficking concerning

Drug trafficking in Enderby is becoming a problem, according to one councillor.

  Coun. Greg McCune has noticed an increase in the selling and purchasing of drugs within the downtown area of Enderby, particularly between Russell and Cliff Avenues.

  “I’ve been hearing from the business community and residents that it seems like a blatant, in-your-face problem,” said McCune.

Enderby market divides and conquers

Enderby’s Open Air Market will now be in two locations.

  After much discussion between market organizers, council and staff, council has approved certain vendors be permitted to use the Maud Street parking lot to sell speciality items or used wares not available in local stores. Vendors who make, bake, grow or raise their products will be permitted to continue selling along Cliff Avenue.

  “At the end of the day if we have two thriving markets and a thriving art gallery that would be exciting,” said Mayor Howie Cyr of the recent changes.

India entices North Okanagan missionary

 Travelling to India left one North Okanagan women feeling fulfilled while leaving those she went to help feeling empowered.

  Julie Forster, who grew up in Enderby and has lived throughout the North Okanagan, will present stories, music and video of her recent work in Tamil Nadu, a southeast state in India, as well as her time in Villupuram and Kolichel during a presentation Thursday at Enderby’s St. George's Anglican Church hall.
